Professor Mat has immersed himself in the world of martial arts, particularly Jiu Jitsu in Fayetteville, NC, under the tutelage of Este "The Giant Slayer" at ZR Team Hope Mills. His journey in the art of Jiu Jitsu commenced at the age of 31, culminating in the prestigious achievement of a black belt in 2022.
His dedication spans over a decade and a half, during which he soared in the sport, attaining a world championship in the IBJJF as a purple belt and securing a bronze medal in the World Masters Championships as a brown belt. Not only a skilled practitioner, but Professor Matt also extends his expertise to instructing a thriving kids' program at ZR Team Hope Mills, nurturing and guiding athletes to success in tournaments and various wrestling divisions at all levels.
Beyond the mats, Professor Matt serves the community of Fayetteville, NC, as a Fire Captain, boasting two decades of committed service, alongside an equal tenure as an EMT-basic. His devotion to both the art of Jiu Jitsu and his three children, who share his passion for martial arts, remains unwavering and central to his life.
